Port Introduction

Papua New Guinea Commercial Port. Located in the middle of the east coast of Bougainville Island in the eastern part of the country, east of the city of Alava, facing the South Pacific Ocean. It is 319 nautical miles northwest of Rabaul Port, 614 nautical miles west of Lae Port, 670 nautical miles southwest of Port Moresby, 273 nautical miles southeast of Honiara Port in Solomon Islands, and 1264 nautical miles south of Brisbane Port in Australia. The port has two major port areas, Kieta and Anava Bay, located about 5 nautical miles apart. The Kiata Port Area is located on the east coast of the base of the Kiata Peninsula, extending southeast to northwest with the BAKAWARI Island Party style outside. The main docks include an ocean terminal, which is 122 meters long and has a water depth of 8.5 meters along the edge. There is a warehouse of 2780 square meters and a yard of 14720 square meters on the dock; The coastal ships and feed docks are both located west of the ocean terminal, each 58 meters long and 4.8 meters deep. There are also West Pier, Barge Pier, and so on. ANEWA BAY Port Area, located to the west of the northern part of the Kieta Peninsula, is a small bay on the west side of ANEWA Bay. On the north bank of the bay, there is a 77 meter long framed dock, with one mooring berth at each end extending 59 meters and 107 meters. It allows ships with a maximum draft of 12 meters to dock and anchor. There are fixed bulk ore loaders on the dock, with an efficiency of 800-1200 tons per hour; The dock also has a movable shore crane with a lifting capacity of 127 tons, two 25 ton forklifts, and roll on/roll off equipment. In addition to loading and unloading ores, this dock is also commonly used for loading and unloading general cargo and containers. On the south bank of the harbor, there is an oil and gas ship anchorage operation area, with oil pipelines connecting to the onshore oil tank group from the water surface. The maximum unloading speed of heavy oil is 4000 tons per hour; The maximum unloading speed of light oil is 700 tons per hour. Both port areas of the port mainly serve the nearby Kiata copper mine. The Kieta area of Bougainville Island has over 800 million tons of copper reserves, making it one of the world's largest copper mines. It has already been put into mining, and the output of mineral sand and the input of daily necessities rely entirely on the two port areas of the port. At present, the annual throughput of the port is about 1 million tons. In 1985, China and the Papua New Guinea government reached an agreement to develop copper mines in the country, with the mining site located near the port.
