MADANG

Port on the west coast of the Bismarck Sea in Papua New Guinea. The maximum draft is 9.25 meters, and the load density of water is 1025. The tidal range is 1.2 meters. The prevailing winds are southeast and northwest. Compulsory pilotage, call "MADANG PORT CON" by contacting the radio on VHF channels 16, 12, 12, 8, and 6. Working hours are 8:00-12:00/13:00-18:00/19:00-24:00. Port service facilities include ship repair, refueling, small boats, medical care, fresh water, supplies and repatriation, without dry docks, towing and sewage discharge. West Wharf, located at 5 degrees 12 minutes 54 seconds S and 145 degrees 49 minutes 33 seconds E, is 137.5 meters long and 12 meters wide, with a minimum depth of 10.1 meters at low tide. The total area of the transit warehouse is 2500 square meters, with one measuring 91.4 meters by 24.3 meters and the other measuring 24.3 meters by 12.1 meters. The open-air warehouse covers an area of 5575 square meters. The old small boat dock can only be moored 52 meters long and 20 meters wide; The transit warehouse measures 18.3 meters by 10.7 meters, with a barge ladder width of 12 meters and a sloping slope of 1:8. Stone Pier, 30.4 meters long and 4.5 meters wide. The total area of the East Wharf transit warehouse is 1870 square meters, with an open-air warehouse area of 840 square meters. The West Wharf can carry a load of 2.44 tons per square meter, while the Along shore Wharf can carry 1.5 tons per square meter. Fresh water can be supplied in limited quantities at each dock according to different seasons. Diesel and kerosene can be obtained from anchor oil depots, supplied by three American oil companies: Shell, Mobil, and Texaco.
