BELAWAN is a commercial port in Indonesia. Located on the northwest coast of Sumatra Island in the western part of the country, adjacent to the Strait of Malacca. 145 nautical miles northwest to Penang Port in Malaysia, 237 nautical miles to Klang Port, and 363 nautical miles to Singapore Port; It is 257 nautical miles west of Shahuang Port, 1225 nautical miles north of Colombo Port in Sri Lanka, and 189 nautical miles north of Myanmar Port. Located 23 kilometers south of Medan City, BELAWAN Port is actually on the outer coast of Medan City. It is one of the main ports in Sumatra. The BELAWAN port area is distributed on the east and south banks of the BELAWAN River, and the top corner docks connected to them are occupied by the navy. The dock in the top corner area is occupied by the navy. There are 9 ocean going ship berths along the east coast of the top corner, with a total length of 2183 meters and a water depth of 10 meters below the chart reference line. Two berths are used for container loading and unloading, one for general cargo loading and unloading, another for passenger boarding and disembarking, and the others are multi-purpose berths. The eastern end of the dock is concave into the west bank of the land, and currently there are three coastal ship docks built with a water depth of 7 meters. There are also six barge berths on the east bank of the Wulawan River in the southwest corner with a water depth of 6 meters. There are 4 mooring buoys offshore, with a water depth of 8.5 meters. The oil terminal is butterfly shaped and located about 1 kilometer east of the ocean terminal, with a tanker berth at a depth of 10 meters. BELAWAN Port currently has only about 20 cargo berths, with half of them being deep-water berths. It is one of the first four ports opened to Chinese ships since the resumption of shipping relations between China and Indonesia in 1985. BELAWAN is the second largest export port for palm oil, rubber, and coffee in Indonesia. The port has a tropical rainforest climate. The annual average temperature is 15-27 ℃. The average annual rainfall is about 2500mm. It belongs to a semi diurnal tidal port with an average tidal range of 1.3m. There are 9 main berths in the BELAWAN port area, with a shoreline length of 2187m and a maximum water depth of 10m. The loading and unloading equipment includes various shore cranes, truck cranes, floating cranes, and tugboats, among which the maximum lifting capacity of the floating crane is 40 tons and the tugboat power is 882kW. The anchorage depth of the large ship is 22m. In 1992, the container throughput capacity was 133000 TEUs. BELAWAN mainly exports goods such as rubber, palm oil, coffee, tobacco, and tea, while imports mainly include rice, flour, fertilizers, petroleum, and cement.
