Located on the northwest coast of Akrotiri Bay in the southern part of Cyprus (full name: THE REPUBLIC OF CYPRUS), adjacent to the northeast side of the Mediterranean Sea. Also known as LEMES SOS, it is the largest port in Cyprus. Hong Kong is a transit center for goods in the Eastern Mediterranean, especially for goods transported from the Far East to Europe, occupying an extremely advantageous position. The port area has a general cargo yard area of 110000 m ∧<2>, a container yard area of 300000 m ∧<2>, a warehouse area of 40000 m ∧<2>, and a grain warehouse capacity of 30000 tons. At present, shipping companies such as Evergreen, Rostock, and COSCO have signed priority berthing agreements with Hong Kong as transit centers. The container throughput of Hong Kong in 1992 was 218000 TEUs. The main export goods are citrus, cement, wine, ready to wear clothing, gypsum, asbestos, raisins, adzuki beans, and canned food. The imported goods mainly include steel, textiles, vehicles, fertilizers, grains, machinery, sugar, and cotton wool knitting.
