Maersk Reshuffles Intra-Asia Network as A14 Takes Over A04's North China-Southeast Asia Service

Maersk recently announced changes to its intra-Asia network, consolidating its A04 and A14 services. The transition will begin in late September. Once the A04 completes its final sailing, it will cease operating as a standalone service, with its existing connections transferred to the upgraded A14. Maersk said the changes are intended to improve schedule reliability and service stability while maintaining cargo connectivity between North China and Southeast Asia.

Key Highlights

A04 service: The A04 will cease operating as a standalone service, with its connections incorporated into the upgraded A14.

Final southbound sailing: The A04’s final southbound sailing is scheduled to begin at Dalian on September 23.

Upgraded A14: The revised A14 will launch its first sailings on September 26 and 29 while retaining the existing cargo connections.

A04 to Make Final Sailing on September 23 as Service Transition Begins

According to Maersk’s announcement, the A04’s final southbound sailing will be operated by Seaspan Lingue/639S, beginning at Dalian as its first loading port on September 23. The upgraded A14 will then take over the relevant connections. Its first eastbound sailing is scheduled for September 26, beginning at Xingang (Tianjin), followed by its first southbound sailing from the same port on September 29.

The discontinuation of the A04 as a standalone service does not mean that Maersk is withdrawing its overall coverage between North China and Southeast Asia. The change primarily consolidates the two existing intra-Asia services, with the revised A14 taking over the relevant connections. Maersk said it would seek to minimize disruption to customers’ shipments during the transition and provide alternative routing options where necessary.

A14 Revises Port Rotation While Retaining North China–Southeast Asia Connections

The upgraded A14 will operate with the following port rotation:

Xingang–Tanjung Pelepas–Singapore–Xiamen–Busan–Xingang–Dalian–Busan

Under the revised rotation, the A14 will continue to serve key Asian markets across North China, Southeast Asia, and South Korea. Maersk will maintain the relevant connections for cargo previously carried on the A04, although routing and schedules may change as the services are consolidated.

Customers currently using the A04 should confirm whether the revised A14 continues to meet their requirements for loading ports, destination ports, and transshipment points. Maersk will also update its online schedule system. Actual sailing arrangements remain subject to the latest information available in the system and the carrier’s most recent notices.

Transition to Begin in Late September, with Three Booking Details to Confirm

The service adjustment will be phased in through several key sailings in late September rather than completed immediately. Shippers planning cargo movements from North China to Southeast Asia should confirm three details when booking: whether the service has changed from the A04 to the A14, whether the sailing schedule has been revised, and whether the existing port calls or transshipment arrangements have changed.

Maersk has not indicated that bookings on the relevant routes will be suspended, and cargo connections between North China and Southeast Asia will remain available. The change is therefore more accurately described as the discontinuation of the A04 as a standalone service and the consolidation of its connections into the upgraded A14, rather than a broad reduction in Maersk’s Asia network. For time-sensitive shipments, customers should reconfirm the specific sailing before the transition to avoid disruption caused by changes to the service name, schedule, or port rotation.
