Port Introduction
Port of Uruguay. Located on the banks of the La Plata River in the southwest of the country, using the West 4 standard. The maximum draft depth is 5.49 meters. The load density of water is 1020. Tidal changes, see Buenos Aires. The prevailing wind direction is east wind. The port management authority is the NACCONAL DE PUERTOS Management Committee. Compulsory pilotage. Radio communication uses VHF channels 16, 11, and 9. Working hours are 24 hours a day (three shift system). The service facilities include ship repair, fuel tanks, dry docks, fresh water, motorboats, food, medical facilities, etc. There are no tugboats, sewage discharge, repatriation, etc. Consul stationed in Argentina. The port consists of a right angled breakwater and a harbor basin with three docks. One of the docks is used as a berth for ocean going cargo ships, equipped with four 3-ton cranes and two 5-ton cranes. The West Pier is used by coastal ships and has a water depth of only 3.96 meters. The port area is a free trade zone.
