Located on the northeast coast of PARIA Bay in the northwest of Trinidad and Tobago, at the top of northern South America. Geographically, Trinidad and Tobago is an extension of the South American continent, with a corner extending southwest and northwest towards the continent, forming the Bay of Paria in the middle, facing Venezuela across the sea. This port is the largest port in the country. Trinidad and Tobago was a British colony as early as 1889, declared independence in August 1962, became a republic in August 1976, and remains a member of the Commonwealth. The port is the capital and the largest city in the country, with superior geographical conditions and open day and night. All of the country's import trade and a portion of its exports are transshipped through this port. Trinidad and Tobago is a relatively developed country in the Caribbean region, with oil and gas being the backbone of its national economy. It is the only country in the region that is rich in oil and gas, with oil extraction and refining accounting for more than one-third of its gross domestic product. Agriculture is relatively backward, with only sugarcane, cocoa, and coconuts available. Transportation is mainly by road and can reach the whole country. The port is about 27km away from the airport and has regular international flights. The port has a tropical rainforest climate with prevailing easterly winds. The annual average temperature is between 20-30 ℃. The average annual rainfall is about 2000mm, and the rainy season is from June to December. The average tidal range is 0.45m, with a maximum of 1.2m. There are 10 main berths in the port area, with a shoreline length of 1546m and a maximum water depth of 10m. The loading and unloading equipment includes various shore cranes, container gantry cranes, mobile cranes, forklifts, and tugboats, among which the maximum lifting capacity of container gantry cranes is 40 tons, the maximum lifting capacity of mobile cranes is 200 tons, and the maximum power of tugboats is 876kW. The maximum reliable load capacity of the port is 20000 tons of ships. The anchorage of the large ship has a water depth of 36 meters. In 1992, the container throughput was 28000 TEUs. The main export goods are petroleum products, sugar, cocoa, coffee, chemical products, and steel products, while the main import goods are grain, meat, machinery, food, transportation equipment, and light industrial products. The export of petroleum products accounts for 68% of the total export volume. The main trading partner is the United States, which imports about 40% of the total imports annually. Other countries include Western Europe and the Caribbean. Any work done during holidays is subject to overtime pay.
