NOVOROSSIYSK

Novorossiysk (Russian: Новоросси́йск, also known as Novorossiysk or Novorossiysk) is a city in southern Russia, located in the Krasnodar Krai, and is the country's main port on the Black Sea. Novorossiysk is one of the few heroic cities in the Soviet Union, with an estimated population of 281400 in 2005. Novorossiysk is located in an ice free port and is considered one of the best seaports in the Black Sea. It is used by Russia as a port for trade with Asia, the Middle East, Africa, the Mediterranean, and South America. Novorossiysk is also an industrial city, with major industries including steel, food processing, metal production, and other manufacturing. Novorossiysk has many limestone quarries, which have led to the emergence of important cement factories in the area. The Novorossiysk area is one of the main wine producing regions in Russia. Novorossiysk has railways connecting the Transcaucasian region, Central Asia, and major industrial and densely populated areas of Russia. The main modes of transportation in the city include buses, trams, and taxis.
