Beira is located at the mouth of the Pungye River on the eastern coast of Mozambique (full name: THE REPUBLIC OF MOZAMBIQUE), on the southwest side of the Mozambique Channel, and is the second largest port in Mozambique. Founded in 1891, it is one of the main transit ports for neighboring countries Zimbabwe, Zambia, and Malawi. It is the second largest economic center in Mozambique, with major industries including textiles, sugar production, iron smelting, aluminum processing, cement, papermaking, electrical appliances, tobacco, and food. It also has large cotton mills, paper mills, and steel joint ventures. There are railways that can directly reach inland neighboring countries. The port is about 7km away from the airport, and there are regular flights to Maputo International Airport every day. The port has a tropical grassland climate, with prevailing south or southwest winds in the morning and southeast or southeast winds in the afternoon. The annual average maximum temperature is about 31 ℃, and the minimum temperature is about 16 ℃. The average annual rainfall is about 1500mm. It belongs to a semi diurnal tidal port, with an average tidal height of about 6.4m for high tide and about 0.7m for low tide. There are 10 main berths in the port area, with a shoreline length of 1670m and a maximum water depth of 9.6m. The loading and unloading equipment includes various electric cranes, mobile cranes, container cranes, tugboats, and roll on/roll off facilities, among which the maximum lifting capacity of electric cranes is 30 tons, container cranes is 40 tons, and tugboats have a maximum power of 2300kW. There are also 2 oil tanker berths with a maximum allowable draft of about 9.4m and equipped with oil pipelines with a diameter of 250-550mm that can directly lead to the oil tank area. The port area has a cargo shed area of 33000 square meters, an open-air storage yard that can store about 200000 tons of ore, and railway lines at the dock for direct loading and unloading. Loading and unloading efficiency: loading coal at 700 tons per hour, unloading oil at 400 tons per hour, and unloading loose ore at 350 tons per hour. The anchorage of the large ship has a water depth of 13 meters. The Hong Kong transit area was established in 1980. In 1994, the container throughput was 32000 TEUs. The annual throughput capacity is about 10 million tons. The main export goods are mica, aluminum, zinc, rough copper, tobacco, tea, corn, cotton, oilseeds, animal skins, sisal, and ivory. The imported goods mainly include wood, fertilizers, machinery, cotton textiles, building materials, wheat, gasoline, and railway tracks.
