Port Introduction
Cobh, pronounced as/712ko ʊ v/, KOHV; An C ó bh is a seaport town located on the south coast of County Cork, Ireland. Koff is located on the south side of the Big Island in Cork Bay, facing the islands of Sui and Hulberro across the sea. The St. Coleman's Cathedral in the town is one of the tallest buildings in the Diocese of Ireland and Crane. name Koff had several Irish names in the early days, initially referred to as the Bay (Cork's Bay) in 1750. It was renamed Queen's Town (also known as Kingston) in 1850 to commemorate Queen Victoria's visit. Until 1920, after the establishment of the Irish Free State, it was renamed Koff and has maintained the name of the town ever since. Koff is a Gaelic English name that no longer has meaning in Irish.
