Jakarta, the capital of Indonesia, is the largest city in Southeast Asia and a world-renowned seaport. On August 8, 1942, after the Japanese invaded Indonesia, Jakarta regained its name. On August 17, 1945, the Republic of Indonesia was officially established with Jakarta as its capital. On January 20, 1950, after the establishment of the federal government in Indonesia, Jakarta was renamed Batavia. On March 31, 1950, it was renamed Jakarta City, and in 1961, it was renamed Jakarta Special Zone until now.
