Port nature: Gulf estuary port, with export processing zone, basic port (M)# Longitude and latitude: 22 ° 18'N, 091 ° 48'E# Located on the southeast coast of Bangladesh (full name: THE PEOPLE'S REPUBLIC OF BANGL-ADESH), downstream of the KARNAPHULI River, about 8 miles from the mouth of the river, on the northeast side of BENGAL Bay, it is the largest seaport in Bangladesh. Established in the 16th century. The industrial and commercial sectors are well-developed, with major industries including cotton, linen textiles, tea processing, oil refining, glass, and fertilizers. It is the second largest city in the country and also the gateway for foreign trade import and export. The railway can directly reach the capital Dhaka. The port is about 9km away from the airport. The port has a tropical monsoon climate, with prevailing south southwest winds. The annual average temperature is 13-29 ℃, with 20 foggy days and 50 thunderstorm days per year. The average annual rainfall is about 2800mm. The average tidal height is 4m for high tide and 0.5m for low tide. There are 11 main berths in the port area, with a maximum water depth of about 10 meters. The loading and unloading equipment includes various shore cranes and tugboats, among which the maximum lifting capacity of the shore crane is 125 tons. The railway line can directly reach the dock for loading and unloading operations. The grain silo has a capacity of 170000 tons, a cement storage capacity of 40000 tons, a phosphate storage capacity of 127000 tons, and a container yard area of 14000 square meters. There are also 9 river berths available for dry cargo ship transfer operations. The maximum reliable oil tanker in the anchorage of a large ship is 60000 deadweight tons. The export processing zone of the port was established in 1984 and covers an area of 260 hectares. In 1992, the container throughput was 160000 TEUs. The main export goods are jute, cotton, eggs, paper, soybean cakes, and livestock products, while the imported goods mainly include grains, coal, cement, fertilizers, wood, sugar, salt, oil, vehicles, and machinery.
