As of November 9th, the latest update on the WAN HAI 503 vessel incident: A total of 97 containers have been successfully unloaded.


Currently, several cargo holds still contain residual firefighting water. Due to the presence of debris and pollutants from the fire this is a complex task. This must be completed before the container unloading operation can proceed.


In the most affected cargo holds, in addition to the residual water, the hatch covers still cover much of the remaining container debris. Heavy machinery and manual labor are required to cut these irregular steel plates into smaller pieces and lift them onto the shore. Due to considerations and the need for continuous monitoring of the ship's structural stresses during the operation, this process is very time-consuming.


Large hydraulic clamps and heavy lifting equipment currently being used to handle the containers. Each container must be individually positioned, separated, and lifted, which requires strict safety monitoring and thus results in a longer processing time.


of November 9, 2025, given the condition of the remaining containers on board, it is increasingly difficult to identify individual containers during the unloading process. Therefore the following data is an estimate:


• Containers successfully unloaded: 987

• Containers still on board: 735
