A major fire broke out in the engine room of the Palau-flagged oil tanker Yi Cheng 6 while transiting the Gulf of Oman, resulting in a complete power outage. The incident occurred on Sunday, June 29, as the vessel was en route from Kandla port, India, to Mina Al Fahal, Oman.

Upon receiving the distress signal, the Indian Navy deployed the stealth frigate INS Tabar, currently stationed in the area, to assist. All 14 crew members aboard the tanker, all Indian nationals, were safely rescued.

According to a statement from the Indian Navy, its firefighting team, along with some tanker crew members, managed to control the blaze. The firefighting operation involved 13 Indian Navy personnel and 5 tanker crew.

The Yi Cheng 6, built in 2003, is registered to Lucky Impact, a Hong Kong-based company that also operates a very large bulk carrier.
