On Tuesday, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) helped extinguish a fire aboard a roll-on/roll-off (Ro-Ro) vessel near Abra de Ilog Port, approximately 70 nautical miles south of Manila.

Around 9:00 a.m., the “Roro Master 2” was loading passengers and cargo for a routine voyage to Batangas on Luzon Island. Suddenly, a fire broke out in a generator located in the vehicle deck near the stern. At the time, the vessel was carrying 33 passengers, 34 crew members, and 21 trucks.

The PCG station in Abra de Ilog responded swiftly after receiving the fire report. Meanwhile, the ship’s crew began firefighting efforts, dousing the burning generator with water. PCG personnel coordinated with the local Philippine Ports Authority office to source additional firefighting equipment. The situation was brought under control, and the fire was fully extinguished by 9:20 a.m.

No casualties were reported. The PCG has recommended detaining the vessel for a thorough safety inspection.

The “Roro Master 2” is an open-deck Ro-Ro cargo vessel featuring a bow ramp and aft accommodation area. The ship is not listed in international shipping databases, which is common for coastal vessels operating in Southeast Asian trade.
