The ProFile Canada database was conceptualized and developed in the late 1980‘s as an alternative to the then existing B2B marketing databases.
For years, the key available business databases provided only company name, address, phone number, sales and employee numbers, and the President‘s name. As well as this type of thin information, the accuracy and age of the records were often suspect.
ProFile Canada improved on the traditional databases by going beyond basic company demographics and providing a comprehensive portrait of an organization. ProFile Canada introduced the tracking of detailed company information, size and descriptive characteristics, business details, and up to 21 key senior executives per company. All in all, ProFile Canada started to offer over 100 variables for key businesses in Canada.
Most importantly, ProFile Canada installed rigid standards for the maintenance of the database – each record was updated at least once a year, by phone, and ProFile Canada ensured that addresses conformed to Canada Post‘s Address Accuracy Standards.
By the mid 1990‘s ProFile Canada had established itself as the premier B2B database for leading Canadian companies. In addition to list rentals, a DOS format was successfully sold on diskettes and tape into many major Canadian businesses.
In 2001 ProFile Canada was acquired by Owen Media Partners (OMP), a leading Toronto based B2B publisher. OMP‘s strengths in database management, research and sales, coupled with in-house developed software made ProFile Canada a perfect addition to the OMP group of companies.
OMP is continually improving ProFile Canada and today the database sits at over 40,000 leading Canadian businesses from across the nation.
ProFile Canada is available in various slices in an easy to use CD ROM software format and, through OMP‘s distribution partners, its data is also distributed in over 100 countries on six continents to customers in the legal, corporate, government and academic markets.
True to its success, the tradition of providing detailed, up to date information for users continues: ProFile Canada still tracks the detailed information that sets it apart from other databases, and still adheres to its original strict data update methodology.
