Mackinnon Mackenzie, which was a member of the P&O Group (UK), now owned by DP World, has been closely associated with shipping since 1863 in what is now Pakistan and is the oldest shipping company in the country.
Mackinnons held the Agency for the renowned British-India Steam Navigation Co., until its takeover by P&O in 1973, for which Mackinnons continued to act as Agents in Pakistan until recently. Mackinnons Pakistan now concentrate more on activities like ships' crew manning, manpower recruitment for overseas employment, insurance surveys, air travel agency and shipping agency work for other principals.
One of the oldest Agencies also held by Mackinnons is that of Lloyd抯 London in which capacity it was appointed in 1866. With the appointment as Lloyd's Agents has followed representation by Mackinnons of many well known insurance companies throughout the world including the Institute of Underwriters Association (IUA). In 1908 Mackinnons was appointed Agent of the Salvage Association and continues to hold that Agency.
Mackinnons Pakistan has been closely associated with East Africa as a result of Sir William Mackinnon抯 close connection with that area and for many year's Mackinnons Pakistan has represented the various governments of East Africa in the handling of their personnel who were recruited in this part of the world. That association continues in the form of payment of pensions to retired employees residing in Pakistan.
Mackinnons is one of the founder members of the Karachi Chamber of Commerce now known as Overseas Investors Chamber of Commerce & Industry.
