Port Introduction
Port homepage: www.puertolirquen.cl The Port of Lirqui, located in the Concepci ó n Bay of the Bio Bio Region, is Chile's largest privately operated port. The designed throughput is 6500000 tons. In 2011, the port completed a cargo throughput of 314950 TEUs and 5897568 tons. The commercial operation of the Port of Lierkui began in the 1950s. In 1953, Lierkui Coal Industry decided to expand the terminal, allowing ships to dock directly without the need for coal barges for transshipment. Initially, the port mainly handled coal, phosphate ore, and sugar.
