On September 18, a cargo ship named "Rapid", flying the flag of Tanzania, ran aground near Pink Rocks Kefken, Turkey.
The vessel, which was carrying gypsum cargo, was en route from Turkey to Chernomorsk, Ukraine, with a crew of7 on board.
The incident was reported to the Turkish Ministry of Transport at 05:54 local time, and the ministry immediately initiated a rescue operation. The Directorate of Coastal Safety (KEGM) dispatched the fast rescue boat KEGM-10 and a land-based rescue team, while a helicopter successfully evacuated all crew members to safety. No injuries were reported.
According to preliminary assessments, the ship struck a reef while sailing close to the shore. The exact cause of the grounding still under investigation by the relevant authorities.
Built in 1991, the "Rapid" cargo ship has a deadweight capacity of 2,60 tons, a length of 81.2 meters, and a width of 11.33 meters.
