According to a report released by the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO), an unknown shell hit the sea surface near vessel in the Red Sea, an area that has been experiencing "severe electronic interference."

This suspicious activity warning is related to an incident that occurred at 0031 on September 4, 178 nautical miles northwest of the port of Hodeidah, Yemen.

The above location is well within the range of the Yemeni Houthi armed group, which has been responsible for attacks on merchant vessels that have led to many ships completely avoiding the Red Sea route.

After period of relative calm in the region since the end of 2024, the Houthis resumed their attacks on vessels in the area in early July 202, sinking two ships in two days.

Over the past week, the Houthis have claimed two successful attacks on merchant vessels, but both ships continued to sail; one reported that the attack missed its target.

Electronic interference in the Red Sea is not, but it is often reported around the Strait of Hormuz. In June of this year, as tensions between Iran and Israel escalated, navigation systems such as GPS andIS were disrupted, including deception and jamming, which lasted for several days.
