Recently, a ship carrying thousands of sheep capsized near the Yemeni territorial waters off the coast of Aden.

According to related footage, the vessel was heavily tilted under the weight of the livestock cargo before eventually overturning.

Reports vary on the number of sheep onboard, ranging from several thousand to nearly a million, but most local sources confirm the number was in the thousands.

The ship reportedly departed from Somalia and was en route to Djibouti when it capsized near the coastal area of Ras Al-Arah in Yemen's Lahij province.

Local sources indicate that overloading of livestock is believed to be the primary cause of the incident.

After the ship began to sink, a group of Yemeni fishermen from Ras Al-Arah quickly mobilized their boats to assist in the emergency rescue. They managed to save several crew members—reported to be Somali nationals—and many sheep. However, despite their swift efforts, more than 160 sheep were reported drowned.

Footage from the scene shows people struggling to pull surviving animals from the sea.

The vessel fully submerged only after becoming grounded, and fishermen and locals rushed to save the livestock in a chaotic scene.

Authorities have not yet issued an official statement.
