The escalating tariff war is severely disrupting container shipping between China and the United States.

Industry reports reveal that the situation has deteriorated for containers that missed the critical April 9 deadline. Goods originally destined for the U.S. are now stranded in warehouses with no clear redistribution plans.

The chaos stems from steep U.S. tariff hikes. While some shippers still scramble to clear customs, many containers that missed the April deadline are now stuck at ports.

Shipments already en route—those loaded onto vessels by April 5 or earlier—will avoid new tariffs. But this offers little relief to businesses already caught in the crossfire.

Experts now predict a sharp decline in shipping capacity, with up to 40% of container freight between China and the U.S. expected to be canceled from April 14 to May 11.
