According to the liner database eeSea, there are signs that Maersk’s AC1 South America West Coast route is about to suspend operations. This speculation is based on relevant evidence collected by eeSea analysts.
Since February 2024, Maersk’s vessel schedules have been inconsistent, and considering that only two of the eight scheduled vessels are still operating the service, while the others remain idle, eeSea expects that Maersk will soon announce the suspension of this route.
On Maersk’s public schedule portal, the remaining two vessels, “REN JIAN25” and “IRENES RAY,” have not been allowed to call at any port on this route after the first week of May.
Similarly, on Maersk’s port pair search engine, there are no scheduled arrivals or departures assigned to AC1.
Launched by Maersk in July 2016, the AC1 route operates weekly with an average vessel size of 4,300 TEU.
The port rotation includes: Ningbo – Qingdao – Busan – Lazaro Cardenas – Puerto Lázaro – Puerto Progreso.
Considering the tariff plans proposed by Trump, the demand for connecting routes to Mexico and South America remains strong. eeSea suggests that after the suspension, Maersk may re-adjust and introduce a similar route.
