On the afternoon of September 8th, local time, the container ship CMA CGM Mermaid was involved in a collision accident the Muuga Port, located in the suburbs of Tallinn, the capital of Estonia.
According to data from MarineTraffic, the CMA CGMmaid arrived at Muuga Port at 11:53 UTC and docked at Berth 1. However, at around 3 p.m., the vessel failed decelerate in time while approaching the shore, directly crashing into the concrete wharf, resulting in the ship running aground.
The local police (PPA subsequently received reports of the accident. PPA spokesperson Barbara Luts stated that the accident caused damage to the wharf and another nearby vessel, but fortunately, there were no casualties no pollution of the sea.
Additionally, the Automatic Identification System (AIS) of the CMA CGM Mermaid was paralyzed for a period nearly 3 hours after the incident, with the signal interruption only recovering before dusk.
At present, the port has already established contact with the ship' crew and launched an investigation to clarify the cause of the accident.

The CMA CGM Mermaid was built in 024 and constructed by the South Korean Hyundai Mipo Dockyard, flying the flag of Malta. The vessel is 205 meters long, 3 meters wide, with a gross tonnage of 32,245 tons and a container capacity of 2,000 TEU.
CMA CGM Mermaid is the first of 10 LNG-powered container ships of 2,000 TEU ordered by CMA CGM, officially in February 2024.
