On Monday, September 1, a collision occurred near Singapore involving the tanker Marine Dynamo (8,270 DWT) and the bulk carrier Flag Gangos (56,526 DWT). The incident took place about 8 kilometers south of Tanah Merah.
The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) reported a minor marine gas oil (MGO) spill following the collision, which is expected to evaporate and disperse naturally. Both vessels remain in stable condition.
The collision occurred at approximately 9:25 a.m. local time. MPA deployed a patrol craft, an oil spill response vessel, and a drone to the scene.
The master of Marine Dynamo confirmed a leakage of MGO used for barge propulsion. One crew member sustained minor injuries including abrasions and a sprain, and is receiving treatment onboard.
Marine Dynamo, built in 2023, is one of two hybrid fuel barges owned by V-Bunkers (Vitol) and was chartered to Chevron in 2024 for operations near Singapore. The vessel features a hybrid power system that reduces auxiliary engines from three to two, supported by a 480 kWh energy storage system designed to cut fuel consumption by about 20%.
Flag Gangos, built in 2013, sails under the Maltese flag and is Greek-owned. At the time of the incident, it was en route to Hambantota, Sri Lanka.
MPA issued a navigational safety advisory to other vessels, noting that the incident posed no impact to navigation safety.
