Maersk has informed customers that multiple large-scale investment projects are currently underway in Slovenia’s public railway infrastructure network and are expected to intensify over the coming months. These projects will affect key rail corridors in Slovenia between June and December 2025.
The infrastructure works are anticipated to cause significant disruptions to rail operations within Slovenia, particularly on the Ljubljana–Sežana/Koper line, which serves as the main railway route to the Port of Koper.
Over the next few years, the following investment projects are expected to have the greatest impact on capacity and throughput:
Line closures expected to continue until the end of 2025:
- Ljubljana–Sežana/Koper line construction
- The Divača–Gornje Ležeče section will be fully closed from June 29 to July 30, 2025.
- One track of the Verd–Logatec section will be closed from August 4 to December 10, 2025.
- Jesenice station reconstruction
- Starting in September 2025, weekend closures will occur.
- From March 2026 to January 2027, technical restrictions will affect rail transport to and from Austria.
- Ljubljana station reconstruction
- From October 6, 2025, to January 2026, only two freight and passenger rail tracks will be available through Ljubljana station.
These conditions will lead to a 50% reduction in capacity, lower transportation frequency, more complex scheduling, and potential delays.
Maersk advises relevant businesses to submit all orders and documents in advance to avoid additional and unnecessary delays in cargo delivery.
