Due to weather conditions, the Haikou Municipal Transportation and Port & Shipping Administration issued a travel advisory at 6:00 p.m. on July 16, warning that operations at Haikou's Xinhai Port, Xiuying Port, and the Railway South Port may be suspended around July 20.

To proactively respond to the impact of the expected weather changes, the three ports in Haikou have taken swift action to strengthen coordination with transport and meteorological departments, closely monitoring weather developments to enable timely response strategies.

On the morning of July 17 at Xinhai Port, many trucks were seen lining up in an orderly manner to board ferries, with overall traffic at the port running smoothly.

According to one truck driver transporting papayas from Haikou to Shenyang, he had already arranged the cargo and planned the ferry time in advance. This allowed him to board quickly without a long wait — “Just buy the ticket and get on the ship. Very convenient,” he said.

A representative from the terminal management center of Haikou Xinhai Ferry Terminal Co., Ltd. stated that sailing schedules are being adjusted in real time based on passenger and vehicle volumes to maintain orderly port operations.

Port staff added that shipping capacity is currently sufficient, though the exact suspension time will depend on the latest meteorological updates.

[Background Information]

Xinhai Port: Located in Xiuying District, Haikou, Hainan Province, it is a key passenger ferry terminal across the Qiongzhou Strait and a gateway port for Hainan's free trade port operations. It plays a crucial role in supporting Hainan’s closed-off customs operations.

Xiuying Port: In operation since the Southern Song Dynasty (Chunxi Era), this port has long served as a major hub for trade and transport with mainland China. Since 8:00 p.m. on February 22, 2024, all freight vehicles must have a reservation to cross via Xiuying Port. Unreserved vehicles are not allowed into the waiting area or port premises.

Railway South Port: This is the port terminal for the Haikou section of the Yuehai Railway ferry. Since February 22, 2024, at 8:00 p.m., it has also enforced a full reservation policy for freight vehicles. Vehicles without a reservation are not permitted to enter the waiting area or the port.
