According to shipping consultancy firm Linerlytica, Vasi Shipping initiated bankruptcy proceedings on April 10, 2025, with outstanding debts totaling USD 19 million owed to creditors.
Records show that Vasi Shipping was established in January 2012 in Singapore and primarily operated routes in Southeast Asia, the Bay of Bengal, the Indian subcontinent, the Red Sea, and the Middle East Gulf.
Reports indicate that Vasi Shipping has ceased operating any vessels since early March 2025. The company owns one vessel, the Vasi Star, with a capacity of 1,728 TEU. Built in 1996, the vessel is 184 meters long, 25 meters wide, and sails under the Liberian flag. In addition, the company had two chartered vessels.
On October 11, 2024, the Vasi Star collided with a tugboat and a barge near the Port of Bangkok in Thailand, resulting in the sinking of the barge. Fortunately, there were no casualties. After the incident, the vessel resumed sailing and berthed at the Port of Bangkok, but was later marked as “casualty or under repair.”
