According to multiple media reports, China's Taiwan-based Evergreen Marine has recently confirmed the order of 14 1,000 TEU liquefied natural gas (LNG) powered container ships, with a total cost of about $3 billion.


The ships will be built by Samsung Heavy Industries and Guangzhou Shipbuilding International, with each yard responsible for constructing seven vessels. The cost of each ship ranges from $175 million to $20 million. These new ships are expected to be delivered between 2028 and 2030.


The deal was approved during a board meeting on Wednesday, and the shipping company disclosed the news in a related document submitted to the Taiwan Stock Exchange.


The two significant orders come after Evergreen Marine ordered 11 new 24000 TEU container ships on February 13, 2025.


According to media reports, Evergreen Marine has several other orders.


It reported that Evergreen has ordered a total of 8 gantry cranes and 9 rubber-tired gantry cranes from Shanghai Zhenhua Heavy Industry, valued at106.9 million, which will be used at the Evergreen Group's Colon Container Terminal in the Port of Colon, Panama.


In addition, Evergreen placed several orders for new containers. The first order is with Guangdong Fuhua Heavy Industry for the purchase of 31,150 containers, with a total value $62.6 million. The second order is with Singamas Container for the purchase of 13,000 containers, with a total value of $342 million. Another order is with CIMC for the purchase of 20,000 containers, with an investment of $43.1 million. The last is with Orient Overseas Container (Hong Kong) Company for the purchase of 26,350 containers, with a total value of $49. million.
