On December 5, the general cargo ship "Kayo" reported a loss of stability and a dangerous tilt, triggering an international search rescue response. The vessel was carrying clay from Lumut Port in Malaysia to Hon Gai Port in Vietnam at the time of the accident.


The accident occurred at midnight, the ship was sailing about 65 nautical miles east of the Malaysian coast. The vessel listed to starboard by 15 degrees and lost stability in bad weather conditions The captain sent a distress signal to the Vietnam Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Center.


The Vietnam Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Center immediately notified the Malaysian Mar Rescue Coordination Center and requested emergency assistance. The Malaysian Maritime Rescue Coordination Center then dispatched the Coast Guard ship "KM Sebatik" to the rescue, which escorted "Kayo" cargo ship and guided the crew to safely anchor at the Kemaman Port anchorage in Malaysia.


Authorities confirmed that all 15 crew, including 13 Vietnamese, 1 Bangladeshi, and 1 Indian, were safe and did not require medical assistance. At present, the ship is still anchored, for further aid.


The "Kayo," which was built in 2011, is a general cargo ship flying the flag of Saint Kitts andis. The vessel is 92 meters long and 15 meters wide.
