On November 10th local time, Belarusian President Lukashenko stated that the large-scale detention of Lithuan cargo trucks due to the unilateral closure of the border by Lithuania has entered a "key resolution period". He emphasized that if the Lithuanian government fails to propose effective solutions the short term, Belarus will consider taking compulsory measures against the detained vehicles, including but not limited to vehicle confiscation.

Centralized control of trucks, negotiation becomes the way out

According to Lukashenko, he has instructed the Belarusian security department to transfer all detained Lithuanian cargo trucks to designated areas at border ports for supervision. He clearly pointed out that if Lithuania hopes to evacuate vehicles, it must reach an agreement through bilateral consultation channels, "Belarus will not accept unilateral demands"

Meanwhile, Lukashenko reiterated the Belarusian position: Belarus has never closed the border with Lithuania on its own initiative, and "is already fully to resume customs clearance", and the right to open the border completely depends on Lithuania's subsequent actions.

5000 trucks detained, border closure extended for month

Since Lithuania announced the closure of the border, about 5000 Lithuanian cargo trucks have been stranded in Belarus. According to the latest report from theian State Border Committee, the Lithuanian side has extended the border closure status until December 1, 2025, further exacerbating the tension in the regional logistics chain

Analysts pointed out that this incident not only reflects the differences between the two countries in border management, but may also have a long-term impact on trade exchanges in theic region.

So far, the Lithuanian government has not yet formally responded to Lukashenko's warning
