Recently, the Greek authorities launched another severe strike against a drug smuggling network, seizing more than 38 kilograms of cocaine a transport container filled with bananas at the Port of Piraeus.


The operation was jointly carried out by the Organized Crime Agency, anti-narcotics departments and customs and finance departments.


According to the police report, the cocaine was discovered hidden in 33 packages, weighing approximately 38.2 kilograms, in concealed area between the container's refrigeration unit and inner wall.


The container arrived on a foreign cargo ship carrying 1,080 boxes of bananas destined the Port of Piraeus.


The authorities estimate that the seized cocaine could have a street value of over 1 million euros.


The investigation is ongoing to the origin and intended recipient of the drugs and to determine if this case is linked to international drug trafficking gangs.
