With the implementation of China's port dues policy for US-flagged vessels, two of Maersk's Transific Line container vessels will no longer call at the Port of Ningbo.
On October 14th, Maersk issued a customer advisory showing that company is making adjustments to its TP7 Transpacific Line service.
The Potomac Express/542E will no longer call at Ningbo For cargo destined to or via Ningbo, the cargo will be discharged at Busan and transported to its final destination via Maersk's existing network. Cargo fromingbo to the USA will be loaded on the Maersk Luz on October 24, 2025, and connect with the Potomac Express inwangyang (depending on availability and space).
The Maersk Kinloss/543E will no longer call at Ningbo. Import cargo to Ningbo or via Ningbo will be discharged at a port in Korea and will continue to Ningbo and its final destination via Maersk's existing network Cargo from Ningbo or via Ningbo to the USA will be loaded on a yet-to-be-determined shuttle vessel and transshipped in Korea.
When the port dues policy took effect on October 14th, the two US-flagged vessels, the Potomac Express and the Maersk Kin, had already sailed from the USA towards China. This left Maersk with two options: either to pay an additional port charge of 400 RMB per net (approximately $56) for each vessel calling at the Port of Ningbo or to drop the port calls at Chinese ports and transfer cargo destined to Ningbo to non-US-flagged vessel in a third country (i.e., Korea).
According to Equasis, the US-flagged Potom Express is managed by Ocean Transport Management Company in Jacksonville, while the Maersk Kinloss is part of the fleet of Maersk's US subsidiary, Maersk Line Ltd.
