The general cargo ship Qing** reportedly caught fire while at a berth in Southampton, UK. The blaze has reportedly been brought under control, fortunately, there have been no reports of injuries, deaths, or pollution.

The vessel, carrying scrap metal cargo, reportedly caught fire while at Berth 19 in Southampton’s Berth 20 at around 6 p.m. local time on Sept. 26.

The fire reportedly began in hold no 3 and quickly spread to hold no. 4 before being brought under control.

A rapid firefighting operation was launched, with reports indicating that the firefighting team used160 cylinders of carbon dioxide to control the blaze. Boundary cooling was also applied to the vessel to prevent heat transfer to adjacent spaces, such as the engine room, fuel, or living quarters.

While the fire is reportedly under control and the vessel is stable, the hatches will remain closed until firefighting equipment such as carbon dioxide cylinders areished. A further examination of the holds will be carried out once the hatches are opened.

All 22 crew members have been safely evacuated and reportedly uninj.

The Qing** is a Chinese-built Hong Kong-flagged general cargo ship built in 2016, measuring 199.9 meters length and 32.36 meters in width with a gross tonnage of 36,388 tons.
