On the morning of September 9th local time, an accident occurred on a ZIM container ship named "MISSISSPI" at ITS terminal in the Port of Long Beach, Los Angeles, USA. Over 60 containers fell into the sea and floated on the water surface, and there no report of casualties so far.
The pictures show that there was a collapse of the cargo stack at the last cargo hold at the stern of the ship, and collapse occurred at the starboard midship. Some containers fell onto the barge, and some fell into the water.
According to the latest report from the Coast, at least 67 containers fell into the harbor, but there is no report of any injuries at present.

It is still unclear whether the cargo loading and unloading operation had already begun, but a barge from STAX company was docked next to it at that. The Coast Guard reported that the barge was damaged, and many containers floating in the harbor water belong to ZIM.
Local TV news reports say that it that someone on the scene is spraying water with a high-pressure water gun, possibly to prevent the containers from drifting in the harbor, and also saw a port tugboatging some containers. The official report says that it is still unclear what goods are loaded in the containers. The report said that there are clothes and shoes floating in the harbor.
The ship was built in 2024, with a capacity of 5,500 standard boxes, the shipowner is MPC Container Ships from, and the operator is ZIM. The ship is 836 feet (255 meters) long and is registered in Portugal.
The Coast Guard that a safety zone of 500 yards has been established around the vessel, and all container operations at the terminal have been suspended. Several vessels and aircraft have been dispatched to scene for reconnaissance of the situation. The U.S. Coast Guard, Long Beach Fire Department, Long Beach Police Department, Port of Long Beach, and Army Corps of Engineers other departments all participated in the rescue response.
