On July 27, a CMA CGM Air Cargo freighter took off from Urumqi Tianshan International Airport, carrying over 50 tons of cross-border e-commerce goods. This landmark moment marked the official launch of the Urumqi–Paris/Madrid cargo route.
The newly launched route is scheduled to operate five flights per week. With this frequency, the annual transportation capacity is expected to exceed 15,000 tons. In terms of cargo composition, the inbound shipments are particularly notable, featuring high-value products such as fresh seafood from France, Iberian ham from Spain, luxury goods, and premium apparel. Outbound shipments mainly consist of cross-border e-commerce parcels.
Recent data underscores the rapid growth of international air cargo at Urumqi Tianshan International Airport. According to the Urumqi Border Inspection Station, from the beginning of the year through July 25, the airport handled 55,000 tons of international air cargo — nearly four times the volume recorded during the same period last year. The airport’s role as a national logistics hub with air transport capabilities continues to strengthen.
In addition, Urumqi Tianshan International Airport has made significant progress in expanding its international cargo network. It has established a route network covering 20 countries across Central Asia, West Asia, Europe, and Africa, further enhancing its function as an international logistics hub.
