The newly released "Xinhua-Baltic International Shipping Centre Development Index Report (2025)" has once again ranked Singapore as the world’s leading international maritime centre for the 12th year in a row. Jointly compiled by the Baltic Exchange and China's Xinhua News Agency, the report evaluated 43 major maritime hubs worldwide.

The ISCD Index is widely used by shipping companies, port investors, and maritime service providers to assess market strength and guide future investments and services.

Singapore retained the No. 1 position among 43 global port cities and regions, thanks to its consistent performance as one of the world’s busiest transshipment and bunkering hubs.

In 2024, Singapore achieved a record container throughput of 41.12 million TEUs. Total vessel arrival tonnage surpassed 3 billion gross tons, and the country remained the largest bunkering port globally, supplying 54.92 million tonnes of marine fuel.

Singapore is home to over 200 international shipping companies and continues to attract a growing number of maritime technology startups. This momentum is driving job creation across port operations, maritime law, automation, sustainability, and digital systems management, as the country rapidly adapts to the demands of a digital and green maritime future.

According to reports, Mr. Ang Wee Keong, Chief Executive of the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA), praised the contributions of industry partners, unions, researchers, and the business community in helping Singapore become a leading global maritime hub. He affirmed Singapore’s continued commitment to innovation, green technologies, digital solutions, and workforce development to reinforce its role as a trusted and future-ready maritime centre.
