On the morning of July 13 (local time), a freight train carrying fuel caught fire while in motion in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. The fire at the scene was intense.

Firefighters and railway maintenance personnel nearby were dispatched to the site to assist in extinguishing the blaze. As of now, no casualties have been reported.

Tamil Nadu, formerly known as the Madras State, is located in the southeastern part of the Deccan Peninsula in India. It is bordered by the Indian Ocean to the south, the Bay of Bengal to the east, Karnataka and Kerala to the west, and lies across the Palk Strait and Gulf of Mannar from Sri Lanka.

When transporting fuel by rail, several safety measures must be taken. Before transportation, it is essential to ensure proper sealing of the vehicle, functioning anti-static and fire prevention systems, and thorough inspection of tanks, valves, and related components. Drivers and escorts must hold valid qualifications, and loading volume must be controlled to prevent static electricity buildup. Route planning is also crucial.

During transportation, traffic regulations must be observed, speed limits maintained, and fire/explosion prevention measures enforced. Vehicle status should be monitored in real time, and extra caution is required during adverse weather or when navigating difficult road segments.

During loading and unloading, preparations should be completed before entering the facility. Vehicles should be parked as directed, grounding alarms connected properly, and fuel loading conducted according to safety procedures. After operations, equipment should be carefully inspected.

Additionally, an emergency response plan should be in place. In case of an incident such as a leak, fire, or other accidents during transportation, the driver must move the vehicle to a safe area, implement measures such as leak containment and fire suppression, and immediately notify emergency services and relevant authorities.
