Jetstar Asia to Cease Operations Permanently on July 31, 2025
Jetstar Asia Airways will permanently cease operations on July 31, 2025. The decision comes amid increasing challenges faced by the Singapore-based low-cost carrier in recent years, including rising supplier costs, high airport fees, and intensifying regional competition.
A total of 16 intra-Asia routes will be affected by the shutdown of Jetstar Asia. However, Jetstar Airways and Jetstar Japan’s flights to and within Asia will remain unaffected. All Jetstar international flights operating in and out of Australia will continue as scheduled. Jetstar Asia will gradually scale back its operations over the next seven weeks, continuing to fly until the final day.
The closure will result in one-off redundancy and restructuring costs. Over 500 employees are expected to be affected, and the company will provide support measures during the closure period, including severance pay and assistance with employment and upskilling.
Parent company Qantas Group stated that shutting down Jetstar Asia will release up to US$500 million in fleet capital, which will be reinvested into the Group’s core business to improve long-term returns.
Founded in 2004, Jetstar Asia has focused on serving the regional aviation market.
