Amid the resounding whistle of departure, two fully loaded trains carrying 80 containers of Vietnamese cassava chips departed from the Xiamen Port Pre-terminal Station, marking the official launch of the Southeast Asia–Xiamen–Nanchang sea-rail intermodal freight service. This milestone signifies the successful establishment of a new cross-border logistics corridor jointly created by ZIM, Xiamen Foreign Trade Customs Broker Co., Ltd., terminal operators, and Xiamen International Logistics Port.
This dedicated intermodal route is the result of strong collaboration among multiple parties. Leveraging its port resource advantages, Xiamen Foreign Trade Customs Broker worked closely with terminal operators, railway departments, and global shipping companies to develop a synchronized “sea-land” logistics mechanism. The project team conducted in-depth research into the supply chain needs of industrial clusters in Jiangxi Province—particularly in electronics manufacturing and food processing—offering a full “door-to-door” logistics solution. Powered by a digital platform, the system enables seamless integration of overseas shipping, port clearance, rail transit, and last-mile delivery.
Compared with traditional logistics models, this solution significantly improves overall transit efficiency, reduces costs, and ensures zero cargo damage through end-to-end visibility and traceability.
This is not just an extension of a transportation route—it is a reimagining of value creation in the supply chain. By integrating the strengths of ocean shipping and rail freight, the new model reduces carbon emissions from road transport and addresses the “last mile” challenge faced by inland enterprises connecting to global supply chains.
As part of its strategy to advance under China’s new development paradigm, Xiamen Port is accelerating its role as a key hub along the Belt and Road Initiative. Industry experts noted that this intermodal route sets a new benchmark for regional industrial collaboration and demonstrates China’s ports’ growing capacity for service innovation in a shifting global trade landscape. With the ongoing policy benefits of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), such multimodal transport models are expected to play a vital role in reshaping the international logistics map.
