Maersk has announced the cancellation of the Heavy Weight Surcharge (HWS) for 20-foot container and 40 NOR (40-foot dry reefer) from Far East Asia to the West Coast of South America, Central America, and the Caribbean region. effect from the 15th of January 2026 pricing date until further notice, the trade lane will no longer charge HWS.



The origin in Far East Asia include: Brunei, China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Cambodia, Mongolia, South Korea, Laos, Myanmar, Malaysia, Philippines,, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam.



The destination countries in West Coast of South America, Central America, and the Caribbean region include: Antigua and Barbuda Anguilla, Aruba, Barbados, Bermuda, Bolivia, Bonaire - Sint Eustatius and Saba, Bahamas, Bel, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Curacao, Dominica, Dominican Republic, Grenada, French Guiana, Guadeloupe, Guatemala, Guyana, Hond, Haiti, Jamaica, Mexico, Saint Kitts - Nevis, Cayman Islands, Saint Lucia, Martinique, Montserrat, Nicaragua, Panama Peru, Saint Pierre and Miquelon, Puerto Rico, Suriname, El Salvador, Saint Martin, Turks and Caicos Islands, Trinidad and Tobago, Saint and the Grenadines, Venezuela, British Virgin Islands.




The HWS will be applied to all products including contract, spot, Maersk GO and other.



The above rates are subject to other applicable surcharges including local charges and Contingency Surcharges.



These rates are not affected, and do not affect, any tariffs that may be notified, published or filed in accordance with local regulatory requirements.



For trades governed by the Shipping Act or the Maritime Code, if the quotation or surcharge is different from the tariffs of Maersk’s lines, such quotation or surcharge will not be binding upon Maersks lines unless it is included in a service contract or service contract revision that has been filed with, or otherwise notified to, the Federal Maritime Commission (FMC), its equivalent.
