On December 12th, a new "container shipping punctuality and cost reduction" route connecting the Port of Nbo-Zhoushan in China with the Port of Ho Chi Minh in Vietnam officially began operation.
As the world's largest port, the Port of Nbo-Zhoushan handles over 1.4 billion tons of cargo annually, with more than 800,000 ships entering and leaving the port each.
However, this super-large port also faces unique challenges, as the busy waterways and narrow straits within the port area create a complex traffic situation.
address these issues, as early as 2019, the Ningbo Maritime Safety Administration in Zhejiang Province boldly innovated and took the lead in implementing integrated management model for the core port area of the Port of Ningbo-Zhoushan. This model coordinates the allocation of various resources such as shipping lanes, anchorages and pilotage, and has also introduced a "vessel schedule" that publishes the plans for ships entering and leaving the port a day in advance. The results have been remarkable, the punctuality rate of the main shipping lanes reaching 98% and the efficiency of ship movements in and out of the port increasing by 35% after the implementation of measure.
Container liner shipping has extremely high requirements for precise timing. To meet this demand, the Ningbo Maritime Safety Administration further optimized and upgraded the original mechanism and the "Container Shipping Punctuality and Cost Reduction Plan". This plan aims to improve the punctuality of liner services and reduce the overall cost of shipping. According to the person in charge of Zhejiang Maritime Safety Administration, this plan has achieved remarkable results after being piloted in the country. At present, 12 major coastal ports and22 shipping enterprises have actively participated in it. In the Port of Ningbo-Zhoushan alone, more than 25,000 hours of waiting have been saved for ships, and more than 867 million yuan in operating costs have been saved for shipping enterprises.
The newly opened "Container Shipping Punct and Cost Reduction" route from the Port of Ningbo-Zhoushan to the Port of Ho Chi Minh, through precise ship schedule management, efficient port connections and in-depth collaboration between port and shipping enterprises, can significantly reduce the time ships spend in port, accelerate the speed of cargo transshipment, and provide more punctual,, and economical shipping services for a wide range of customers, injecting new vitality into the smooth flow of international trade
