The Maersk-chartered container vessel “Kyparissia” which was involved in a blaze while at the Port of Tanung Pelepas (PTP), Malaysia on November 7th, has had its owners declare general average.


A relevant notification was released on the official website of maritime claims consultancy WK Webster, appointing Richards Hogg Lindley as the GA Adjusters, who will be in charge of collecting the relevant guarantees and security from cargo owners freight forwarders.


It is understood that Maersk reminds in their customer notification that the cargo interests on board are required to submit their relevant guarantees to the General Average Adjust, Richards Hogg Lindley, before a release can be effected and subsequent transportation arranged. The containers on board cannot be arranged for transhipment or delivery until such time as relevant guarantee formalities demanded by the Adjusters have been complied with.

Meanwhile, a reminder for the relevant customers to include the following in the subject line of emails sent relation to the subsequent proceedings:


Vessel Name (Kyparissia), Container Number, Bill of Lading Number


For example: Value Protect – Kyissia – Container Number – Bill of Lading


Three people, including a crew member, are reported to have died as a result of the incident. A firefighting operation deployed at the scene following the accident, which was subsequently brought under control.
