On November 21st, near Bad Salzig on the Rhine River in Germany, a river vessel named "Somnium Vitae" became separated from a pushed barge convoy. At the time of the accident, the two ships were carrying approximately 2000 tons of building stone.

To local police, the river vessel and the barge were moored with two anchor piles and a bow anchor. However, the swift river current caused the convoy to list, with the bow shifting towards the center of the river. Soon, the starboard mooring cable snapped, causing the stern of the barge to collide with the bow of river vessel.

The hull of the river vessel developed a 50-centimeter-long crack, and water began to pour into the ship. Subsequently, the ships pumps managed to control the inflow of water. Afterwards, a support vessel towed the barge to an emergency mooring place, while the "Somnium Vit" remained in place to unload its cargo for further action.

The incident caused only minor disruptions to local shipping traffic. The fire department arrived on the scene to assist convoy. Authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the snapped mooring cable and the circumstances surrounding the incident.
